Summer Morning Routine

It’s been awhile since I have been able to be on here. I’ve missed it! Summer has been full of gardening, projects, travel, and company. I am settling in for the rest of the summer.

I have established a good morning routine to help me get grounded for the day. I believe that a set routine in the mornings can either make or break the rest of your day. It’s not a complicated routine. I wanted to do what I was already doing, then add in a few more necessaries to make it well-rounded. It was always difficult for me to find a consistent way to get things done while enjoying the “peace” of the morning.

I have never been a morning person… although I am not really a night person either. 🙂 Is that possible? But, I found something that helps me with both.

Here is what I do:

6 a.m. I wake up with hubby and get him out the door with a packed lunch and a kiss. Yes, I pack hubby’s lunch every morning. Most of the time, it is a sandwich, while other times leftovers. My goal is to deter any temptation to eat out for lunch– that is the best way to save money. Sadly enough, AJ is the only one who shows up to work with a packed lunch.

6:20 a.m. Augie wakes from his slumber to the sound of me getting on my walking clothes. Many mornings like this morning, he will knock me over with his butt wiggles as he has a hard time containing his excitement. It’s his favorite part of the morning. Shoes tied, leash on, and coffee pot started, we head out the front door for an easy walk. The sun is not yet brimming the trees and the birds are singing their morning songs. The sky is full of pastels. I am only able to fit in about 15 minutes, but would like to carve out more time in the future.

6:45 a.m. The two of us move to the back porch with coffee and Bible in hand. I spend my time reading, sipping, and praying while Augie surveys the remains of last night’s wildlife activity in the garden. This is my favorite part of the morning.

7:10 a.m. I finish my cup of coffee and get ready for the day. I do very simple make up and hair for the work week. My job is repetitive so I paired my make up and hair down to something that keeps down the summer frizz while also is appropriate for the office. I also select my clothes the night before after checking the forecast…I find that helps me get out the door much faster in the mornings.

7:30 a.m. Out the door I go!
